Barnegat Light

Perched at the northern tip of Long Beach Island, Barnegat Light is a haven for recreational fishing and home to the towering Barnegat Lighthouse, the second tallest lighthouse in the country. A vital part of New Jersey’s fishing community, it offers anglers hours of enjoyment along its scenic waters.

Barnegat Light’s historic Viking Village—once a row of tiny fishing shacks—has transformed into charming shops where visitors can browse architectural finds, antiques, precious gems, and handcrafted jewelry. Scandinavian fishermen, drawn to the area’s striking resemblance to their homeland, settled here in the 1920s, creating a lasting maritime tradition. Fresh seafood is available daily, straight from the docks.

For an inside look at the local fishing industry, Viking Village offers free one-hour tours of the commercial fishing dock every Friday at 10 AM—reservations required!
